Exposed: Why Fulani herdsmen attacked Benue state.

– The Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) says cattle rustling activities by Tiv youths contributed to the herdsmen attack in Buruku local government area of Benue state

– Spokesperson for MACBAN Garus Gololo accuses Tiv youths of stealing 800 cows belonging to the resident herders

– Gololo says it is regrettable that while the state government is doing everything to resolve the crisis, some others are taking the law into their hands

Cattle rustling activities by Tiv youths in Buruku local government area of Benue state was the reason Fulani herdsmen launched last weekend attack in the state, according to the Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).

Fulani herdsman have been blamed for carrying out attacks on communities in Nigeria.

Spokesperson for MACBAN Garus Gololo alleged that the herdsmen attack began after youths from the affected village last Thursday carried away 800 cows belonging to the resident herders, Daily Post reports.

He said after the cows were carried away by the youths, the herdsmen traced the missing cows the following day to that village and that was how trouble started.

The spokesperson said: This is highly regrettable because they should have notified the security apparatus already put in place by the state government who could have handled the matter. They didn’t report the matter even to us (MACBAN).

“It is painful that while the state government is doing everything to resolve the crisis, some others are taking the law into their hands. But, those found wanting in this matter would surely be handed over to the security agencie.”
