The former Governor of Rivers state and current Minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has been criticized by the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr Austin Tam-George for splashing a whooping sum of N82 million on a dinner for Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka and failing to pay workers’ salaries owed by the state government.
He made this accusation yesterday, 5th January, 2016 while addressing Government House correspondents in Port Harcourt, the Rivers statecapital.
“A government that did not pay salaries, closed the courts, but the administration had the courage to expend N82million to fund a dinner for Prof Wole Soyinka.”
“These are facts on ground. The Amaechi administration expended the money under the heading of borrowed funds.” Dr Austin Tam-George said in a statement released by the state’s press unit.
He further said that the state will ask Wole Soyinka to refund the money, if he recieved some part in cash from Amaechi.
