NANS INITIAL REACTION ON THE RENAMING OF HIGHER INSTITUTIONS BY OSUN STATE GOVERNMENT.

NANS INITIAL REACTION ON THE RENAMING OF HIGHER INSTITUTIONS BY OSUN STATE GOVERNMENT.

Henry jex blog
We received the news of the renaming of Osun State owned tertiary institutions with rude shock. Gov. Aregbesola announced the renaming at the uniosun convocation ceremony today.

The new names are as follows:
1. Iree Poly now S.M. Afolabi
2. Ila now Adeyemi Oyeduntan College.
3. Ilesha now Lanre Omole.
4.Esa-oke now Bisi Akande.
5. Uniosun now Bola Ige University with the colleges as follow:
a. Okuku now Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
b. Ejigbo now Isiaka Adeleke
c. Ikire now Eniola Atanda.
d. Ifetedo now Kayode Esho.
e. Ipetu now Hezekiah Oluwasanmi.

The decision to rename the schools without an iota of consultation is totally undemocratic and a departure from all norms of progress and societal tranquillity. The students, staff, management and host communities are relevant stakeholders that ought to have been carried along.
It is even more appalling that Gov. Aregbesola did not deem it fit to get the approval of the state house of assembly before the unwarranted name changing. We begin to wonder if this is a democracy. We wish to warn that this singular undemocratic decision is capable of sabotaging the peace of the state if not properly managed.

The timing of this renaming equally calls for questions. In a time when the state is grappling with multifaceted problems without any clear cut way out, do the people of Osun need this unnecessary distraction now? Wont it be better to allow the controversy surrounding the school restructuring programme laid to rest before swimming in another water of controversy?

Our Demands:

1. We totally reject the renaming and call for its immediate reversal
2. We call on the state house of assembly to rise up in defence of democracy by rejecting this abnormality.
3. We shall begin mobilisation in preparation for total showdown with the government if the proper thing is not done and in time.

I wonder why we elected him as governor, all he knows is 2 name schools and places, changing a school in ejigbo to wole soyinka high school, abeg is wole soyinka from osun state, instead of using bola ige for freedom park he used nelson mandela from south africa 😏.seriously I won't blame him,he studied at polytechnic ibadan instead of gaining wisdom na cults he dey do. Agree with me, going to schools is not to be a doctor, politician e.t.c alone but to add to our sense of thinking. Uniosun has been change to bola ige uni, I won't dispute dat, buh naming each campus under it is crazy. I said something last year, that he can't merge the colleges together buh I think he can make each campus a full university e.g osun state university of law, university of agric and so on in d next 10yrs. Back to federal government, una dey watch abi, e ti ya werey. I conclude we should go back to military regime, although I wasn't born then but I read about it, so when anyone like aregbe is saying rubbish he should be shot immediately on podium, u try to do rubbish I shoot u GASKIA. I will be back jare I want to read AGY 409 I get exam tomorrow. Eshey. #bimb#

I think a state institution can just be stripped of its identity is ridiculous. The university has been striving so hard build a strong reputation since its inception. And to think the decision was made without the consultation of the students is even more inferiorating. Yes, I concur to the need to honour our heroes but we don’t need to strip the identity of a school to achieve that. Why not name halls or even bus-stops after such men. The so called freedom park in osogbo, why not name it "Bola Ige Freedom Park" rather than changing the entire name of a renown institution. I stand to say that this man called Ogbeni has a problem with placement of priorities. If not misplacement of priorities, is changing the name of institutions the next thing the state's agenda?
I know there are some fellows somewhere who sees nothing wrong in this show of shame, but I want you to understand fully well that Uniosun is barely 10years old and still striving to gain recognition nationally and globally. Changing its name is a great setback in achieving that.
I don't want us to go with the masses nor run after an administration because of religious views or whatever sentiment.
I want to admonish students not to publicise that name be it UNIBI, BIU or whatever it may result to. Let us still hold unto this renown name "Osun State University" let us protect, preserve and keep Promoting it until it reaches quantum leap.
I believe this unhealthy decision can be reversed if we come against it in unity. Let us remember that, the former president, GoodLuck Ebele Jonathan once tried to change the name of University of Lagos to Moshood Abiola University. That decision was countered fiercely by the students and they won the federal government. Now Unilag is still Unilag. We can do this fellow students. Let's share this article across various groups and campuses. Greatest Uniosun Students!πŸ’ͺ🏾πŸ’ͺ🏾πŸ’ͺ🏾
