Biodiesel – How To Start A
Business That Converts Used
Cooking Vegetable Oil Into Diesel
Fuel, And Get Paid For It!
Everyday, millions of litres of used cooking
vegetable oil are wasted and flushed down the sink
in home kitchens, restaurants and hotels around
the world. What a waste! Especially as all that used
oil can easily be converted into biodiesel, a fuel
just like ordinary diesel, that could power trucks
and machinery. Biodiesel is a cleaner and better
performing fuel than diesel, and it’s a surprise it’s
not very popular in Africa yet. In this article, I’ll
introduce you to biodiesel and why its demand is
growing around the world. I’ll also share an
inspiring success story of one African entrepreneur
who’s already exploiting the promising potentials
of biodiesel in his country. In this article, you’ll
also learn how biodiesel is made, and all the
ingredients, tools and knowledge you need to
produce this revolutionary product. Hint: I have
included two tutorials to help you fully grasp the
basics. This article is a great read. I know you’ll
enjoy it!

4 Years A Farmer – My Insights
and Experience as An Urban
Farmer in Lagos, Nigeria
Many people who read henry jex blog don’t know much
about me. In the past few years since I launched
Smallstarter, I have written over 100 widely-read
articles on business and entrepreneurship in Africa.
I am very passionate about the business ideas and
success stories I share, and hope to inspire a
generation of young African entrepreneurs. In
today’s world, it’s common that ‘experts’ hardly
practice what they teach. I’m not one of them. In
my experience, there’s often a huge gap between
theory and practice. That’s why the best way to
learn, is to do. That way, the knowledge I share
with the world is proven and practical. I live in a
country where agribusiness has been ignored for
decades. Most young people in Nigeria, and even
across Africa, hardly dream of working in
agribusiness. Almost every young person in the
urban areas wants to wear a suit and work in an
office. I used to be one of them (mentally, at least).
In this article, I’ll share some of the insights I
have learned from my four years as an urban
farmer in Lagos, Nigeria. It’s been a tough but
hugely exciting experience. By sharing these…

10 Made-in-Africa Footwear
Brands That Are Making Africa
Proud (And The Amazing
Entrepreneurs Behind Them!)
Everybody needs shoes. We don’t just buy them to
protect our feet; shoes are a popular way to
express our style and fashion sense. With a
population of over one billion people, Africa
remains a virgin market for the footwear industry.
It’s not just the size of Africa’s market that’s
attractive to the footwear industry. Africa is also
richly endowed with the raw materials, impressive
talent and affordable labour that gives it the edge
to build a multi-billion dollar footwear industry.
African countries like Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya and
Nigeria (just to mention a few) are leading the
footwear revolution on the continent. Ethiopia, for
example, is already home to more than 30
tanneries and several manufacturers that produce
shoes and other leather goods for both the local
and export markets. In 2013 alone, Ethiopia
earned over $30 million from shoe exports, which
ranks it ninth in the global leather goods industry.
And this is only the beginning. As more countries
join in, the value of Africa’s footwear industry could
grow to $1 billion in the next decade. In this
article, you’ll see how 10 “Made-in-Africa”
footwear brands are taking the continent by storm.
You’ll also see.Saturday, 16 May 2015 13:41

The Nanny Problems In Africa: A
Lucrative Business Opportunity
Waiting To Be Exploited?
Entrepreneurship is about solving real problems
that people face in their lives. The more difficult
the problems you can solve, the greater the
rewards you’ll get from the market. Africa’s nanny
problem is one of those huge problems that
parents across the continent are desperate to
solve. Nannies take care of children and provide
this very important service in many homes around
the world. The problem is, in most parts of Africa,
the nanny service is largely informal, unregulated
and low quality. As a result, nannies now
constitute one of the biggest sources of security
dangers in the homes they live in and the children
they are hired to care for. In this article, we’ll
take a deep look into the seriousness of the nanny
problem across Africa. We’ll also see why the
demand for nanny services is huge and growing on
the continent, and how smart entrepreneurs can
create innovative solutions to these problems and
build viable businesses out of them. This is a
very detailed, and well-researched article. I’m sure
you’ll love it!

The Teach Connect ICE Event –
Inspiring Success Stories and My
Experience in Beautiful
Cameroon
Every year, over 20 million young Africans join the
labour force. This army of young men and women,
many of them university graduates, join an already
overwhelmed pool of unemployed people ‘looking
for jobs.’ If the current trend of unemployment
continues, up to one billion Africans may need
jobs by the year 2050. I love the optimism and
fighting spirit of those who are looking for
employment. But the honest truth is, just about
three in ten people will ever find jobs in the current
market. The available jobs out there are just not
enough! Unemployment in Africa is a major
problem and a ticking time bomb for the continent.
When young, vibrant and able-bodied people
cannot find jobs to earn an income and take care
of themselves and those who depend on them, the
frustration that ensues is very likely to lead to
damaging consequences for the society and
economy. I am very passionate about Africa’s
business potentials and how this generation of
young Africans can dramatically change the future
of our continent. So, when Henry Koge, my good
friend and Founder of Teach Connect, invited me
over to Cameroon to speak about business and
entrepreneurship…

Making Money From Trash –
Meet Africa’s Top 5
Entrepreneurs in the Waste
Recycling Business
Uncollected trash is a very big problem in
developing regions of the world, especially Africa.
According to a World Bank Urban Development
Series report, Africa currently produces just about
70 million tons of waste every year. With its rapid
urbanization and growing economies, waste
production in Africa will exceed 160 million tons
by the year 2025. Waste is a problem because it
causes pollution, disease and environmental crisis
when it’s not properly disposed. The good news
is, most of the waste produced in Africa can be
recycled and reused to create new products. Sadly,
only about 10 percent of the waste generated every
day in Africa is collected. The rest usually ends up
in illegal dump sites, gutters and drainages in
Africa’s cities. Did you know that in the USA and
Europe, waste collection and recycling is a multi-
billion dollar industry? In this article, I’ll introduce
you to five amazing African entrepreneurs who are
building successful businesses in the waste
recycling business. They are the young men and
women who are creating jobs, building wealth and
saving Africa’s natural environment. Let’s meet
them...
